I hope you have your shovel ready because you’re going to need to take the following Captain Marvel rumor that has surfaced with a whole lot of salt.
Basically, the story comes from a YouTuber named ‘Film Gob’ that claims that an anonymous source with Disney and Marvel has come forward and claimed that Brie Larson, the titular heroine in Disney’s Captain Marvel, has fallen out of favor with both her fellow co-stars and her higher ups. It even goes on to state that they could be looking to kill the character off several films before the end of her seven film contract.
The video, which you can check out below, states that Larson’s Avengers: Endgame co-stars are unhappy with the fact that it looks as though the Room actress will be the new face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward. The video seemingly points to Scarlet Witch actress, Elizabeth Olsen, as being one of the cast members bothered by the attention that Larson and her character are receiving.
This could be understandable given that her character has pretty much remained on the sidelines since her debut in the post-credits scene in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This is likely to change in the next few years, however, with the news last year that Olsen is set to star in a six to eight episode series featuring the character on Disney’s new streaming service, Disney Plus.
The video also states that Disney CEO, Bob Iger is also unhappy with the direction of Captain Marvel and Kevin Feige’s support of Larson – even going on to speculate that Iger is looking to avoid another situation like 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi. For those who don’t know about the controversy surrounding the film, it basically involved a certain part of the fan-base being unhappy with the direction the franchise was heading in, leading to boycotts and a petition to shut down Rotten Tomatoes based on its score.
Given that it sounds as though many of the old crowd could in fact be leaving the after Avengers: Endgame, we may be in need of a new face for the franchise going forward.
We will find out whether the Brie Larson character is a hit or a flop when Captain Marvel hits theaters this week.
