With all the excitement surrounding Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame it’s easy to forget that DC also has a film coming out this year in the form of David F. Sandberg’s Shazam!. Thankfully, we have a brand spanking new trailer for the film to remind us of what we can expect when the film hits theaters this April.
Whilst the trailer doesn’t show us a great deal of new footage, we do get to see a brief clip of the fight scene between Zachary Levi’s titular hero and Mark Strong’s villainous Dr. Sivana aswell as more shots of Billy learning just what he can do with his new powers. Most importantly we get a cameo from The Dark Knight himself… kind of.
Check out the trailer below:
Many fans had assumed that this trailer would give us our first look at Billy’s family suited up as the Marvel family and the Seven Deadly Sins – seven powerful demons based on the same sins found in Christianity. It may be that Warner Brothers were looking to keep some things held back for the actual film’s release. It’s just a shame that their presence in the film was leaked through the use of merchandise.
Shazam! definitely looks as though it will be completely unlike anything we have seen in the DC franchise thus far. Whether this is a good thing for the studio will be determined when the film hits theaters on April 12th. Check out the synopsis below:
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard (Djimon Hounsou). Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).”
