Batman has been played by Ben Affleck since 2013, but after much speculation that he’d be leaving the part – it’s finally been confirmed by the actor himself. It was confirmed earlier today that The Batman which will be directed by Matt Reeves has a release date for June 25th, 2021, and sadly, the rumors are true, as Affleck has confirmed he won’t be a part of it.
The actor took to Twitter to pass the torch:
Excited for #TheBatman in Summer 2021 and to see @MattReevesLA vision come to life. https://t.co/GNgyJroMIO

THR has confirmed that the tweet is officially Ben Affleck saying goodbye to the role. The report from Deadline states:
Reeves boarded Batman in February 2017, taking over for Affleck who was originally set to direct off a script he wrote with DC’s Geoff Johns. Affleck, we understand has a busy plate: As Deadline exclusively broke he is starring in and producing the feature adaptation of Kate Alice Marshall‘s novel I Am Still Alive, which Universal won in a competitive bidding scenario. The two-time Oscar winner is also starring in the Warner Bros.’ Gavin O’Connor drama Torrance. Affleck worked hard on The Batman story, but knew he wasn’t the right one for this particular version. A search is underway for a new Dark Knight.
As far as what to expect in the movie, Reeves’ said the following:
“It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional.”
The Batman is set for release on June 25th, 2021 and the search for a new actor is currently underway.
