We are getting crazy close to the release of the final film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 3, Avengers: Endgame. After the ending we were given to Avengers: Infinity War, and with only one trailer released thus far for Endgame, and not even so much as an official synopsis published, fans are grasping at straws, trying to figure out any detail they can work out. It’s become like CSI: Marvel across the internet, with people dissecting every little moment of the previous films.
Case in point; the latest fan posting over on Reddit.
Dr. Strange told that Thanos can wield the power of gauntlet only if he clench his fist. Then how could a snap do the thing? from r/marvelstudios
On the surface, this user makes a great point. If Thanos can only use the gauntlet’s powers when his fist is closed, how can he snap half of the universe out of existence? Well, the reasons are two fold. One, to snap one’s fingers, one must close their hand, nearly fist style. Two, when Dr. Strange makes the proclamation that Thanos has to have his fist closed to use the gauntlet, the gauntlet itself is not complete. Once the wielder reaches the near omnipotent level of having all six stones, use of its powers become more of a thought rather than an action. This rectifies the “plot hole” before it even actually becomes one.
There’s another key element to all of this… It’s just a comic book movie and it doesn’t always have to make perfect sense. Sometimes, little minute details such as this slip past a script supervisor. Then again, he has to make a fist to snap, so is this even really a plot hole to begin with? Are we so desperate for anything on the new movie that we’re nitpicking to an obsessive degree that we’re making mountains out of non existent mole hills? Could be. The main point here is that maybe we should relax just a bit and just wait until Avengers: Endgame hits theaters in April of 2019.
