Fans are counting the very seconds til the film hits theaters, anxiously awaiting the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 3 Finale. And, while many fans scour the internet for any information they can find on what exactly the story holds for our beloved heroes, most people are trying to avoid flat out spoilers downright.
But, what happens when the movie hits theaters in another country before it hits the U.S.? Are Americans going to have to avoid the World Wide Web all together to avoid spoilers? Not so fast, people. Let’s slow our rolls, here, and really look at this latest news.
NEWS FROM THE UK & IRELAND RELEASE CALENDAR:
Avengers: Endgame will have a Thursday opening, 25th April.— Comscore Movies UK & Ireland (@cSMoviesUK) January 29, 2019
Following a tweet from Comscore Movies UK & Ireland, the news of the 4th Avengers film getting an earlier release date than in America has sent many into a frenzy. Many sites have jumped on this story, and like many news outlets have done for decades, they make a mountain out of a molehill, and fuel undo panic and anger. But let’s analyze this, shall we? This tweet says that the movie will be released in the U.K. on April 25th, the Thursday before it is released in America. But is it really early?
See, in America, while movies are typically released on Fridays (besides holiday weekends and such), the film is usually available to be seen on Thursday night, as early as 5pm (though typically the first should is around 7pm for most films). So, while in the U.K. they may get a showing or two in before 5pm, they aren’t really getting it any earlier than we are. The only true difference is the time change. The U.K. is 5 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time in the U.S. So, even if they didn’t get the movie til Friday, they’d still have a few hours on us. But, that’s the only real “earliness” advantage they are getting here.
So, before fans grab their pitchforks and torches to storm the U.K. in protest, let’s realize that they really aren’t getting it any earlier than we are. There’s no reason to be upset. So, ignore all these other sites that are using clickbait tactics and mass hysteria for their own personal gain, and just know that you will get to see this movie at the same time as the rest of the world. We will all get to see Avengers: Endgame and enjoy what is sure to be an epic conclusion to the culmination of 22 films in the MCU.
