The Lost Boys have found a permanent home with The CW, according to a new report. The ‘80s vampire-based comedy was passed over in 2016, but the network has since changed its mind and has ordered the series – which is welcome news for horror fans and fans of the movie.
The report from Deadline states:
The untitled Nancy Drew drama, inspired by the classic mysteries, comes from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire (Gossip Girl, Dynasty) and CBS TV Studios, while The Lost Boys is from Rob Thomas’s Spondoodle, Gulfstream TV and Warner Bros TV.

Rob Thomas—no, not the Matchbox Twenty Rob Thomas—originally pitched the idea to The CW executives in 2016. However, he is now working on Hulu’s Veronica Mars revival and will instead be listed as an executive producer on this iteration of the show. Heather Mitchell (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy) will take over writing duties.
As the report states:
“The CW originally developed a series adaptation of the iconic 1987 Warner Bros horror comedy movie The Lost Boys with Rob Thomas writing during the 2016-17 development season. While the project didn’t go to pilot, the network brass remained very high on the title and had been looking to redevelop it. While Thomas has been busy with his Veronica Mars reboot for Hulu, a take by writer Heather Mitchell (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy) got everyone excited, and the new adaptation picked up steam this development season.”
The official logline seems to support the original premise of the film.
“After the sudden death of their father, two brothers move to Santa Carla with their mother, who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers find themselves drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead.”
In addition to The Lost Boys, The CW has ordered pilots for Riverdale spin-off Katy Keene, and an as-yet untitled Nancy Drew series.
