There is a niche genre in the horror community that blends terror with humor, having audiences scream and laugh all at the same time. Classics like Shaun of the Dead, Army Of Darkness, and Slither have such a cult following that they have reached almost biblical levels with many fans. One film that tends to top most horror/comedy lists is a tongue-in-cheek yet realistic look at what the world would look like if a zombie apocalypse actually happened, Zombieland.
Starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin (and showcasing a fantastic Bill Murray cameo), Zombieland offered a look at how normal people would actually react to a zombie breakout. Now, a decade later, we’re finally getting a much desired sequel, Zombieland 2, and we’ve got a plot synopsis from SuperBros Movies to tell us what to expect.
“The sequel will follow the charismatic group of zombie slayers following the events of the first film as they settle into their post-apocalyptic lives. They’ve chosen a more luxurious lifestyle and decided to set up camp in the White House. After a disagreement between Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) and Wichita (Emma Stone) causes the group to split, Little Rock (Abagail Breslin) runs off with Berkeley (Avan Jogia), a guy she just met.
The group then sets off to rescue Little Rock, but, of course, they aren’t alone in the world. New types of zombies have overrun the world, they include Homers (dumb ones), Hawkings (smart ones) and Ninjas (deadly ones). Along the way, Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) meets his match in the form of a female zombie-hunting badass named Nevada. This makeshift family will have to use all their skills and follow Columbus’ survival rules if they want to make it out alive.”
Seeing not only the evolution of the characters, but also the evolution of the zombies themselves should provide for an entertaining sequel. Top that with the supposed report stating that Bill Murray will return (somehow…) as well as Dan Aykroyd making an appearance, and this movie may just be worth the ten year wait. The movie is set to release on the Ten Year Anniversary of the original film’s release, October 11th. Fans have their fingers crossed that the long awaited sequel will hold up to its cult classic predecessor.
