The Alien film series is a beloved sci fi horror universe that has spawned several successful films, including mashups with the Predator universe, as well as several console games. Now, it looks like the Weyland-Yutani Corporation will be joining the ranks of mobile gaming with Alien: Blackout. Coming to both Apple and Android phones, Alien: Blackout will bring the terrifying world of surviving in space while avoiding the menacing brutality of a Xenomorph. 20th Century Fox, on the heels of it pending Disney merger, have released a description of the game as well as a trailer, but no official release date just yet.
“The terror of Alien is brought to life in Alien: Blackout. Try to stay alive while trapped aboard a crippled Weyland-Yutani space station carrying a deadly Xenomorph as it tirelessly hunts you and the crew. Outsmart the perfect hunter by making perilous choices. Players must rely on the damaged controls of the space station or risk sacrificing crew members to avoid deadly contact, permanently altering the outcome of the game.”
Fans don’t seem too happy about it, as the trailer currently has about 500 likes – and 17,000 dislikes.
While this isn’t exactly what fans were wanting when Fox trademarked Alien: Blackout in November, 2018, it is still something people can get behind. Especially after rumors of Disney basically killing off this and other series that don’t coincide with their image. Fans were first speculating that this name was for a series on a streaming service, but then some ominous Instagram posts led some to believe we were getting a console game. However, none of those happened, but instead we’re getting something we can bring with us everywhere we go.
Alien: Blackout comes to the App Store, Google Play and Amazon Appstore on January 24 and is currently available for pre-order.
