With the recent release of the new Captain Marvel trailer, we got a better look at the first superheroine led film in the MCU. We see Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers showcasing more of her power set, better looks at the Skrulls, a bit more of Jude Law’s character, and even our first glimpse at renowned actress, Annette Bening. But, the biggest reveal in the trailer came in the form of an oft-rumored fan favorite character, and people weren’t disappointed. I’m talking, of course, about Carol’s cat!
In the comics, the world was introduced to Captain Marvel’s feline companion in 2006. At first, he was a great relief for the hard life of a superhero, a furry friend to come home to after intergalactic battles against villains of immense power. After all that stress, it’s nice to come home to a fluffy kitty that curls up on your lap and help you relax. That is, until you find out that you cat is actually part of an alien race of egg laying, pocket dimension carrying, tentacle having beings called “Flerkens”!
I’ve spotted the most important easter egg in the #CaptainMarvel trailer: The “cat” is called Goose. Replacing a Star Wars reference with a Top Gun one ✨ pic.twitter.com/qAdRbLtizR

Now, while many fans would love to see this version of Carol’s cat appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it may be a bit of a stretch to pull off. However, that doesn’t mean it won’t happen later on down the line. But, we already have some differences here, as the comic version is named ‘Chewie”, while the film version is named ‘Goose’, an obvious Top Gun reference.
But, this film is set in 1995, so maybe this is her first pet, and Chewie comes along in modern times? Who knows. What we do know is that fans are getting what they asked for and Captain Marvel is getting her kitty!
Some fans are also convinced that the cat is what causes Nick Fury to only have one eye. Though I don’t believe that, these fan reactions are pretty entertaining:
Me watching Cap marvel new trailer, and fearing for Fury life’s when he plays with the cat. While everybody else think it’s cute #CaptainMarvel pic.twitter.com/faxLJWFPB0

My bold #CaptainMarvel prediction: Not only is Captain Marvel’s cat a skrull, but the cat is also the cause of Nick Fury losing an eye. pic.twitter.com/BVk5BwJOeu

Foreshadowing. Nick Fury lost his vision in one eye to a cat attack.

Obviously, this is a bit of a stretch. But a funny one.
We’ll know everything for sure when Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8th, 2019.
