The news many Marvel fans suspected would come – has finally come. Daredevil has been cancelled after three seasons at Netflix, following cancellations of Iron Fist and Luke Cage. It’s sad news, but was pretty much a given with Disney’s upcoming streaming service looming as major competition to Netflix.
The news comes from Variety who writes:
“Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix. We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note.
We’re thankful to showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.”
It’s fair to wonder what will happen with Daredevil now. New actor? Charlie Cox return? These are all questions we’ll be wondering for quite a while now. It’s also fair to wonder if Netflix even wanted the show to succeed in the first place, given how badly they buried it on its opening weekend of streaming. I guess we’ll never know, but I personally thought Season 3 was the best of any Netflix shows, and it’s pretty annoying that it got cancelled.
The Punisher Season 2 and Jessica Jones Season 3 are on the way, but we’re guessing they’ll be cancelled as well. The Netflix Marvel Universe appears to be over.
R.I.P. Daredevil.
