Stan Lee sadly passed away earlier this month, and while his cause of death hadn’t yet officially been revealed, many just assumed it was due to the fact that the Marvel legend was 95 years old. Well, today the cause of death has been confirmed, and it’s not exactly surprising given Lee’s old age.
TMZ reports:
Stan Lee, the creator of much of the Marvel Universe, died from heart and respiratory failure … TMZ has learned.
We obtained Stan’s death certificate, and it lists heart failure and respiratory failure as the cause of death. It also says he suffered aspiration pneumonia — which is when you inhale food, stomach acid or saliva into your lungs. According to the document, 95-year-old Lee died Monday, November 12 at 9:17 AM at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
TMZ broke the story … an ambulance rushed to Lee’s Hollywood Hills home earlier this month, and he was brought to Cedars-Sinai.
The certificate says he was cremated and his ashes returned to his daughter. His occupation was listed as a writer in the publishing business.
It’s pretty sad news, as many Marvel fans are still trying to come to terms with the fact that Lee won’t be around anymore. He definitely won’t be forgotten, and it’s worth pointing out that he lived an incredible life. We haven’t seen the last of him, though, as he still has a couple of MCU cameos that are yet to be seen.
So many wonderful moments with Stan came spontaneously. As we were setting up the camera one day, he casually started talking about his fans. We know how much Stan meant to you, and we thought it would be nice for you to hear how much your support meant to him. pic.twitter.com/WTX8U1afLm

Before Lee left this world, he had an important message of appreciation for his fans, saying:
“I love my fans. I cannot tell you how much I love my fans. Sometimes at night, I am sitting here thinking What’s it all about? And then I get a letter from a fan or I read something or I see something or I remember something. And I realize, it’s so lucky to have fans, fans who really care about you. That’s the reason I care so much about the fans because they make me feel so great.”
You made all of us feel great too, Stan Lee. R.I.P.
