It’s not uncommon for horror movies to have never-ending sequels and remakes being churned out year after year and now it seems Chucky has another movie coming our way with a Child’s Play remake. Unlike the anticipated Halloween release last month soaring at the box office, many don’t seem too excited about the return of the fiery-haired slasher doll in overalls.
It could be that the eighth film in the franchise isn’t being written by Don Mancini like the previous seven; it could be that he’s now called Buddi, or it could even be that unlike the original; the doll will now be a high-tech version that is purposely set to malfunction instead of possessing the soul of a serial killer. We’ve all seen the Terminator movies and it never ends well for machines.
MGM and Orion Pictures have released the new poster and release date for the movie:
“Every child in America deserves a best friend, so we built one.” – Henry Kaslan. Introducing Buddi! He’s more than just a toy, he’s your best friend. Meet him on June 21, 2019. #ChildsPlayMovie pic.twitter.com/nwU6JdY1KF

At first glance, it looks promising with the intriguing “From the producers of IT” and of course, the title which is obviously the exact same as the original, probably to keep past fans interested. The release date of June 21st, 2019 also just so happens to be the same for Disney Pixar’s new Toy Story 4 and I know which talking toy I’d rather watch – and he has a cowboy hat.
Not only that but the new Child’s Play movie will also be going up against another reboot of The Grudge that same weekend and to be honest, they’re not going to be setting any records with that decision.
The only notable actress I recognized on the list was Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation/Legion) so they’re not breaking the bank in terms of cast. Can we also mention the new tagline “More Than A Toy…He’s Your Best Friend” which doesn’t really coincide with the doll’s modernized upgrade as it’s 2018? Most six year boys would rather have console games these days or subscriptions to Spotify Premium.
Which one would you rather be watching? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!
