Don’t freak out, but Dracula is coming to Netflix. Okay, you can totally freak out.
BBC and Netflix are teaming up once again to bring you the iconic vampire that everyone has come to love since his unveiling in Bram Stoker’s gothic horror novel way back in 1897. There have been many adaptations of the classic Count, but none quite like this. If you’re a fan of the BBC’s Sherlock, you’re going to love that the team behind it Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, are the ones working on this intriguing period remake.
Set in the original 1897, the story follows the Transylvanian undead gentleman, Count Dracula, moving to Victorian London in search for new blood. Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat have said:
“There have always been stories about great evil. What’s special about Dracula is that Bram Stoker gave evil its own hero. There’s nothing like fresh blood.”
Charlotte Moore, BBC Director of Content said:
“Genius duo Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss turn their attentions to Dracula for unmissable event television on BBC One.”
Piers Wegner of BBC added:
“Steven and Mark’s ingenious vision for Dracula is as clever as it is chilling. In their talented hands the fans will experience the power of Bram Stoker’s creation as if completely anew. We are thrilled to be collaborating with them and the brilliant team at Hartswood on yet another iconic British series.”
In true Sherlock fashion, the BBC has commissioned three 90 minute episodes which will be available to stream on Netflix UK. There are no mentions of cast and with writing due to have started in March earlier this year, there isn’t even a hint of a release date yet so we’ll have to wait a little longer to sink our teeth into this one.
