It has been a while since Don Mancini first revealed plans for the upcoming Child’s Play TV series. Information about it has been kept tightly under wraps, aside from a teaser trailer at the beginning of the year and the confirmation that it will be ‘dark and disturbing’ unlike the more comedy sided Chucky films that have been made in the past.
Now, from the a Screamfest Q & A session, we have some new information regarding the show.
About the upcoming Chucky series, writer Don Mancini said:
“We deliberately ended Cult with a bunch of cliffhangers to set up a TV series, because there are so many different threads now, television could best accommodate that so that was done intentionally. At the same time, we have a whole new world, a bunch of new characters which we can say nothing about.”
It will definitely be exciting to see what direction they take the franchise in, and what new characters we will meet along the way. Although no specifics have been shared, producer David Kirschner did offer a little bit more information on what we can expect:
“The only thing I think we can say is from the original film that Don wrote, Child’s Play, we are playing with that concept again, the idea of child’s play,” Kirschner said. “I’ll let you guys fill in the pieces of that.”
Mancini added:
“It involves children.”
The Chucky franchise has seen many characters and genre shifts and still maintained a loyal fan-base over the years. After 7 movies it makes so much sense that the next instrumental will be through a TV series, especially considering the great success of horror based shows at the moment.
