Todd Phillip’s solo Joker film with Joaquin Phoenix is in full production mode, and lots of behind the scenes photos and videos have been released recently. The newest one leaked, however, humanizes this film and this villain in a way not seen by fans before. This video shows Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, a failed comedian who seems to have taken a job as clown. While he will eventually become arguably the greatest villain of all time, at this point he still just a man, albeit nearly the brink of breaking.
The video is of Phoenix, in a full classic clown regalia, on the phone in a phone booth. Apparently, the phone call is not good news, as Fleck drops the phone and collapses in the booth. This could be the actual moment in the film that starts the snowball to villainy down the steep hill of insanity for the Clown Prince of Crime.
This film is set to be groundbreaking, as far as ‘superhero’ movies go, with a smaller budget and a more intimate feel, along with some of Hollywood’s greatest talent involved. While some are a little weary over a comedic director at the helm, all the pieces seem to be guiding this ship to giving us an epic yet grounded take on Batman’s greatest foe. Some speculate that all of these ‘leaks’ are a way for Phillips to show he can helm this dramatic film, an almost desperate act to show fans ‘Hey, I got this’.
But others see that while we’re getting tons of looks at the film, these leaks are actually really giving nothing important away, and it could actually be a distraction from what we’re actually going to get in the end. In an almost Free Mason style of secrecy, Phillips is putting out tons of info without actually giving away any true spoilers.
I, for one, am super excited to see how this movie turns out, and I can’t wait til we get to see the finished product.
