The still untitled Avengers 4 is on every fans mind, even with the highly anticipated Captain Marvel solo film coming out a couple of months before. After the events of Infinity War left every fan shaken to their very core, and with more questions than answers, everyone is clamoring to get any information on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s finale to Phase 3. One of the biggest questions is what exactly is going to happen to some of the MCU’s biggest names.
Stars like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Evans – their contracts are up after A4. While no definitive answers have been given, a post on Chris Evan’s personal Instagram may give a touch of foreshadowing to the director of the MCU’s First Avenger.

Evans and Marvel made headlines when Captain America sported a tremendously awesome beard and a blacked out uniform in Infinity War, illustrating the harrowing journey of the man out of time. The Sokovia Accords forced the once revered hero into being labeled a war criminal and into hiding. He watched as the government and country he so loved turned its back on him, and the world he defended fall further into chaos.
Things only got worse as he faced the universe’s biggest threat, Thanos, only to lose and watch as half of all life was wiped out, including his best friend, Bucky. So, it seemed like the Cap of old, the Star Spangled, Clean Cut Hero from WWII was long gone.
However, it would seem that Cap is back to his old ways with Evans’ new post during the reshoots of A4. He’s back to the clean shaven boy scout we all know and love. The question we need to ask now is why? With the rampant speculation of time travel scouring about the internet, it could be that Evans is simply shooting some scenes in the past. But I have a different theory…
Does everyone remember the scene in the first Avengers movie where Cap and Agent Coulson meet for the first time? There’s a bit of a throwaway line where Cap thinks the “Stars and Stripes” uniform might be a little too old fashion. Coulson’s response, however, may be more poignant that we realized:
“Everything that’s happening, the things that are about to come to light, people might just need a little old fashioned.”
This foreshadowing might not just have been for this particular movie, but for the entire MCU in general. You see, while Cap may have become hardened and disenfranchised with the world’s ideals, he never gave up on doing what is right and trying to save the world. But saving the world doesn’t just mean stopping the bad guy, it means uniting the world under a common banner. A symbol, if you will. Captain America has always been that symbol.
So, as the finale rolls through, and we might see Cap make the ultimate sacrifice to save the universe, he could do so in the old Red, White, and Blue duds the world is all too fond of…
