Recently, production began on Joaquin Phoenix‘s Joker origin movie. It will be Todd Phillips’ first DC movie and fans have been torn about their expectations for it. Following pictures of the actor looking a lot slimmer than usual, we got our first look at the character in his role yesterday and now we have a set video of him in action.
You can watch the video, which was originally shared by the Mail Online, below:

In the video we can see Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck – the man behind the Joker. Although he isn’t yet donning the creepy and recognisable make-up that we associate with the character, you can definitely see in the clip that same demeanour and attitude that is typical for the villain.

Although most of the plot details have been kept under wraps it is understood that Arthur will return to live at home with his mother. There he meet single-mother Sophie Dumond, from there he begins to lose his mind and transition into the character well all know so well. A report from ThatHashtagShow said:
“We have learned that Joaquin Phoenix’s character will begin the film as Arthur Fleck before the series of events that drives him to become the Joker. As we told you before, Phillips’ film will follow Fleck as he returns to a city on the brink. We believe that Fleck will return home to live with his aging (perhaps dying?) mother, Penny, in her apartment. It’s here that he’ll likely meet Sophie Dumond, the single-mother set to be played by Zazie Beetz, and begin his descent into madness described as the “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.”
I’m looking forward to seeing this origin movie for one of the most recognisable villains of all time, and it will also be interesting to see Joaquin Phoenix’s incarnation of the Joker.
The movie is scheduled for release on October 4th, 2019.
