The upcoming Venom movie will officially be rated PG-13, and many fans are disappointed with that news, including myself. That’s not to say that the film still couldn’t be a good movie, as there are plenty of good PG-13 movies, but this film has been hyping itself up to be R-Rated, and launch the darker Sony Marvel Universe. That apparently isn’t the case – and we now know what exactly the film will carry that rating.
Venom has been rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and for language.
It’s been said that the main reason Sony went for the PG-13 rating as opposed to an R-Rating is because they wanted to keep the possibility of potentially crossing over with Spider-Man and the MCU in the future – something that Marvel Studios has shown no interest in doing. With that being the case, they obviously saw more money in having a lot of children able to see Venom.
#Venom is officially rated PG-13. Hearing from studio sources the reason is so that Venom and Spider-Man can face off at some point down the line. If the movie is R, it’s hard to do that. pic.twitter.com/dBZzgY18k3

Whatever the case may be, we’re hoping that the Tom Hardy film will still be a good one, and that we can have more quality Venom films down the road. If Carnage is introduced for the next one, however, I don’t see how they could make a proper film and not have it R-Rated. Then again, I could ultimately be proven wrong. Only time will tell.
Venom hits theaters everywhere on October 5th.
