Jason Blum has done great things for modern, low-budget horror. His production company, Blumhouse, have plenty of successful titles including the game-changing Oscar winner, Get Out. The latest and most highly anticipated Blumhouse project to date is the upcoming Halloween sequel. Although it’s not released until next month, early reactions are looking brilliant. Considering the probable success of the sequel to the 1978 classic, Jason Blum has revealed titles of some other classic horrors he would be interested in rebooting.
In a recent interview with Forbes, Jason Blum was asked about other franchises he would like Blumhouse to pick up, that he had tweeted about – Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. He responded:
“I’d like to do that, yeah. I would like to do both of them, but it’s a rights situation with all those movies. It’s very tangled and very complicated. It’s one thing to say you want to do them and it’s a whole other thing to get to actually do it. To give you some idea, Halloween was in the works with us for four or five years before it evolved, so, there are business obstacles to cross but, in theory, if you said to me, “Would you like to do a Scream movie?” My answer would be, “Of course.” Sadly it doesn’t work like that.”
So although it looks like the producer is keen, don’t hold your breath for them to make an appearance anytime soon. Blum originally became known for the found-footage horror hit, Paranormal Activity and Blumhouse has produced a number of successful horrors including Sinister and the Insidious franchise. Now with it looking like Halloween will be a great success, I’m sure fans would love to see Jason Blum get his hands on Scream or I Know What You Did Last Summer. Looks like we will just have to wait and see.
Halloween will be released on October 19.
