Marvel Studios’ Black Panther has been a groundbreaking and inspirational film that has set all kinds of box office records, as well as has the highly possibility of being the first Comic Book Movie to be nominated for a Best Picture Academy Award. But, while this film is a stand out in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it still holds a lot in common with its brethren, including the glorious treasure hunt for fans that are Easter Eggs. One eagle eyed Reddit user noticed some writing on T’Challa’s suit and was able to translate it.
In the film, we saw T’Challa’s insanely smart sister, Shuri, hook the newly crowned king up with a new, more advanced Black Panther suit, before he left for his mission to capture Klaw. This suit utilized a new form of Vibranium tech that actually absorbed kinetic energy to be released as a later blast. During the demo of the suit, we see the stored kinetic energy show up as a purple light throughout the suit, which highlights details throughout the suit.
Some of the details are Wakandan text, and the fan was able to freeze frame the shot and translate it. It’s a simple, but thoughtful message of ‘I Love You, Mom’.
In Black Panther, when T’Challa strikes the new Panther Habit suit to test its kinetic energy storage, some glowing Wakandan text appears on the torso. If you translate one chunk of this text, it actually says, “I Love You Mom.”

As the Wakandan text used in the film was an actual language called Xhosa, the translation is an accurate one. The only question now is, whose mom are we talking about? Is it a nod to Shuri and T’Challa’s mom, Queen Ramonda (played fantastically by the wonderful Angela Bassett), a wave to director Ryan Coogler’s mom, or maybe a personal Easter egg for one of the visual effects people? Hopefully, someone can ask the question and find out. Also, there is even more text throughout the uniform, so are there even more messages?
With Black Panther set to arrive on Netflix in September, maybe even more Easter Eggs will be discovered. And, with a sequel to the smash hit already planned (albeit an interesting prospect, considering the ending of Infinity War), we can only imagine what other little treasure troves we’ll find in the realm of Wakanda.
