Avengers: Infinity War is one of the most ambitious movies to date. Not since Who Framed Roger Rabbit? has a film brought together so many characters into one movie all at the same time. With so many characters and story arcs from the Marvel Cinematic Universe going on all at once, it’s easy to miss a couple little details upon a first viewing. Well, a new theory from Reddit may have picked up on some small details, but revealed a huge arc that no one seemed to notice until now, one that adds even more pain to an already downtrodden character.
Upon Thanos’ arrival in Wakanda, the Mad Titan proceeds to put a beating down on our heroes, locking Bruce Banner inside a mountain, burying Black Widow under rocks, and taking Captain America head on, knocking him out cold. Or did he do more? Considering the power Thanos had to wipe out the Hulk in the beginning of the film, and add in the power of five Infinity Stones, could that blow have been killing blow?
But, wait, if Thanos did all of this, how is it that right after the snap, Cap is up and walking, without so much as a bruise from such a punch? And how are Banner and Widow free from their rock prisons? Well, thanks to the new theory, you may just slap yourself at how simple it is…
Infinity War: Captain America was killed in the Battle of Wakanda, but was then brought back with the time stone.

This certainly makes sense, and I almost feel dumb for not seeing it myself before now. Now, in the standard contrarian style of today’s society, many have chimed in saying that Thanos pulled his punch so as not to kill Cap, or that he didn’t punch full strength to save his endurance. To them, I say hogwash! The villain had five of the six stones already, making him a borderline God.
And even if he didn’t feel the need to kill Cap with that blow, we have seen Cap be scarred and bruised by non killing blows (i.e. in Winter Soldier, when Bucky pummeled his face in) and was still con.
Thanos punched Cap hard enough to knock him flat out! He would at least have a major welt or cut or something to show for that heavy of a blow. This would add even more turmoil to Cap’s story arc, having him die and brought back, only to witness his best friend turned to dust? And, on top of that, how did Banner and Widow get free so quickly?
With that point, I will play Devil’s Advocate here. Remember when the Guardians tried to stop Thanos from getting the Reality Stone, only to arrive too late? And, when they attacked, Thanos turned Drax into rocks, Mantis into ribbons, and Star-Lord’s gun into bubbles. But, once he left with Gamora, they returned to normal. Maybe, after the snap, when Thanos left for his farm, these rock “prisons” disappeared, as they were created by the Reality Stone, and with it no longer in proximity, things reverted back to normal…
Either way, this theory has me jonesing to watch Infinity War once again and see what else a person can pull from this film… Who’s with me?
