Even after Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘s highly-controversial reception from fans, its hard for fans not to be excited about Star Wars: Episode IX. The last entry in the latest Star Wars trilogy has been shooting has been shooting for three weeks now, with the rumor mill continuing to spin as to what exactly will go down in this much-anticipated sequel.
It appears fans might have something big to get excited for. It has been leaked from set that an Episode 9 scene will feature Kylo Ren having a reunion with Anakin Skywalker and his alter-ego Darth Vader. Before you ask how exactly this could happen, here is the description of the scene:
“(It shows) Kylo Ren standing in what appears to be a new throne room for himself. In front of him is a window, a wide window looking out to space. In the window is a reflection of what seems to be a hybrid Force ghost of Anakin’s face – half of which is Anakin, half of which is Vader.”
With both Solo and Rouge One, Disney has shown a heavy interest in featuring classic characters, but it often appears more so as a marketing gimmick than anything that connects strongly to narrative. Based off this description though, I think the inclusion of Vader/Anakin in this film is actually quite beneficial. Despite not appearing in the trilogy, Vader has had a significant presence in the series, as he is the force (no pun intended) that inspires Kylo Ren to succumb the Sith.
As far as Episode 9 goes, I still don’t really know what to expect. J.J. Abrams return to the franchise after his success with The Force Awakens is sure to comfort many, but he’s entering into uncharted waters in following up Rian Johnson‘s previous entry. With all the changes in story direction, I am curious to see how exactly Disney wraps up this story and the Skywalker legacy.
Star Wars Episode IX is set to hit theaters on December 20th, 2019.
