Stan Lee is the Patriarch of all things comics. Regardless of which brand is your favorite, just about all of the nerd realm look to Stan Lee as ‘The Man’. Even the casual fan knows just how important he is to the comics world, even if they first learned of him from his cameos in nearly every Marvel movie ever. However, the last year or so has not been kind to the 95 year old creator of many of pop culture’s greatest characters.
He has lived through personal tragedy, illnesses, fraud, extortion, theft, abuse, and more. But, the forever young Lee has kept his upbeat and wonderful personality through it all. Recently, though, it was announced that he will no longer be attending conventions or autograph signings. This is truly sad news for fans, but the always fun Lee posted a video on his Twitter as an update:
In his newest video, Stan addresses an issue several of you have commented on recently. pic.twitter.com/IH2YsApcd1

It’s great to see that even at nearly a century old, and with all he’s been through in such a short amount of time, Stan “The Man” Lee still has his fantastic sense of humor intact. He also has had some people looking out for him in the wake of all this tragedy, as Kevin Smith has offered to let him move into the director/writer’s house, and artists Rob Liefeld and Todd McFarlane have both visited the Godfather of Comics recently, on multiple occasions.
Stan Lee is a true cornerstone of not only comic books, but of pop culture in general. A genuine rock star in the industry, Lee created some of the most iconic characters in modern mythology, including Spider-Man, Dr. Strange, The Incredible Hulk, The Fantastic Four, and the X-Men, just to name a small few. But, it wasn’t just the characters that Lee contributed, but the humanity.
His stories and heroes were reflections of society, rather than larger-than-life gods who couldn’t possibly exist in the real world. Taking the issues of the day, Lee reflected that with flawed and humanized characters dealing with real problems like racism, teenage angst, anger issues, and more.
While it may seem a bit greedy our part, hear’s to hoping we get many more years of the wonder that is Stan Lee. Excelsior!
