Spider-Man: Far From Home is the upcoming sequel to the blockbuster success of the joint Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios venture, Spider-Man: Homecoming. While Marvel and Sony are doing their best to keep most of its details under wraps, some information has leaked, leading to much fan speculation. Now, thanks to a new casting confirmation and a Tom Holland set video post, fan theories are abound as to a new possible villain in the movie.
Wait I’m in WHAT?!

First, it was reported by The Wrap that Crazy, Rich, Asians breakout star, Remy Hii, has been cast in an unknown role in the Spidey sequel. The Aussie actor of Chinese, English, and Malaysian decent was also seen in the popular Marco Polo series. There is no word on who he might be playing, but we have our theories, which we’ll discuss more below. But first…
Tom Holland posted a video on his Instagram where he spoke about the charity he is currently supporting, Brother’s Trust, as well as jokingly talked about doing all his own stunts, in the style of Tom Cruise, before his actual stunt double is blasted off the screen by a high powered water cannon.

While the video isn’t an intentional spoiler, it does lend some more credence to an earlier rumor of a certain water based villain might be making an appearance in the film.
So, what could all of this mean? Well, I’ve got four theories that range from the obvious to right out of left field that may just work for this news. So, if you’re ready, here we go!
The first and most obvious choice here is that Hii is playing Hydro Man. Although the character in the comics is a rugged, slightly incompetent white male, his minor status even in the comics allows for a lot of wiggle room in how he is portrayed. The main thing with this villain is his powers, where he controls water molecules and is himself “living water”. We could also see Remy bring a little more personality to the character and possibly be in more films.
A slightly less of a chance could be that Hii will be playing Kraven the Hunter. This stems not from Holland’s video, of course, but actually from the previous casting of Numan Acar, who is playing a character named “Demetri”. This seemingly points to Acar playing infamous Spidey villain, The Chameleon.
Not only is The Chameleon a sizable and worthy foe to the Wall Crawler, but he isn’t alone. He has a brother, and that brother just so happens to be another one of Spidey’s greatest villains, Kraven.
Kraven was the foe in one of the Web Head’s greatest storylines, The Last Hunt. In it, Kraven, who is the world’s greatest hunter, has decided that even the ‘great hunt” of humans isn’t enough for him, so he decides that a super powered individual would be the greatest hunt of them all. And, Spider-Man, with his super strength, super agility, and spidey sense, would be the ultimate adversary.
While this would be a little bit of a stretch, it would help Sony introduce the character to a larger audience before his own solo movie, which they have planned. Also, on a personal note, Kraven is my favorite Spidey villain, and I would love to see Marvel have a hand in his big screen debut to all but guarantee that he is done justice.
Another theory we have is that Hii is playing Mister Negative. Now, again, the water blast doesn’t play in here, and he is a very unknown character, but there is some precedent to this character making an appearance.
You see, Mister Negative is the main antagonist for the upcoming and highly anticipated video game for PS4, Spider-Man. This game, due out in less than a month, is made by the Batman: Arkham Series people and is getting a ton of buzz before its release.
With Mister Negative sure to explode in popularity with this new game, it only make sense to have him make an appearance in the film, and possibly set up a future fight. Also, Mister Negative’s alter ego, Martin Li, is known as a charitable and good individual, further hiding his evil tendencies. We could see Remy play Martin Li, setting up the villain for the third film in the series.
The last, and the most unlikely theory, thanks to ScreenGeek Editor, Frank Palmer, is that of Namor, the Sub-Mariner. Although typically a hero, his aggression and like of care for the surface world has had him at odds with many of Marvel’s heroes, including Spidey himself. And, before you shout, “Hey, his movie rights are with Universal!”, let me stop you there.
His SOLO film rights are with Universal, but, just like the Hulk, Marvel has full reign to put him into other films, such as this one.
Still, this one is definitely a far stretch, but could be really cool, as well as give another explanation for the blast of water in Holland’s film.
All in all, it’s all just rumors until we get a definitive confirmation from the studio as to who exactly Hii will be playing, and we’ll have to wait for more information as to exactly what that water stunt means for the film.
