Avengers: Infinity War left us with a lot of questions, but one of the bigger questions was why Thor didn’t go for Thanos‘ head when he had a chance to stop him at the end of the movie. Perhaps Thor just thought he had enough power and rage to stop him right then and there – or something along those lines. While speaking on the commentary of the film’s home release, one of the writers spoke about this very scene.
Christopher Markus revealed:
“It’s a small misstep on Thor’s part, to take this moment of revenge. As monumental as this moment is in cinema, my primary memory is Josh Brolin with a huge chest piece that made him look like one of the Fruit of the Loom guys, with a huge foam axe stuck in his chest.”
Markus added:
“The man who made the Gauntlet and the Axe provided Thor with the weapon that could defeat the Gauntlet. Unfortunately, he didn’t go for the head.”
It’s easy to see why Thor wouldn’t be thinking in that moment, as Thanos killed his best friend Heimdall, as well as his brother Loki. Here’s hoping he gets his revenge in Avengers 4, which is scheduled to be released May 3rd of next year – but could be out earlier.
As far as Chris Hemsworth’s future as the character is concerned, the actor had this to say back in May:
“Thank you so much, everyone, who continues to support these characters and the Marvel Universe. We’re going to keep trying to crank them out for you if you let us.”
Here’s hoping there’s much more Thor to come in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
