47 Meters Down: The Next Chapter is the surprise sequel to 47 Meters Down, the surprise hit of 2017. The movie was about two girls who decided to enter a shark cage in while vacationing in Mexico, and become trapped at the bottom of the ocean. While the movie wasn’t huge with critics, as it has a 55% on Rotten Tomatoes, it did turn a profit with its estimated budget of $5 million by making $45 million in the US alone at the box office.
Now, it’s been revealed that we’ll be getting a sequel to the film, and it’s called 47 Meters Down: The Next Chapter. We have the first trailer for you below:

The movie was initially called 48 Meters Down, as some pointed out on Twitter – and as it currently stands on IMDb:
I really wish they would have called it 48 Meters Down: The Next Meter. #47MetersDown

Johannes Roberts, the director of the film, described the film – saying:
“If I had to pitch it in a very simple way, I would describe it as The Descent underwater. So it will be six or seven people trapped in the caves in Brazil, an underwater city.”
James Harris, who represents The Fyzz Facility (the company who financed the movie), said:
“We are so pleased by the huge success of 47 Meters Down; it totally exceeded all expectations. 48 Meters Down will take the claustrophobia of cave diving and the thrill of shark encounters and move everything to the next level.”
Announcing the movie’s release right before The Meg is set to hit theaters this week is a pretty good marketing move, but the film won’t be hitting theaters until Summer of next year. Here’s hoping it’s not as bad as the surprise sequel to 1999’s Deep Blue Sea.
