It was recently confirmed that MGM are going ahead with a remake of the 80’s horror, Child’s Play. This is completely separate from the Child’s Play TV series being created by Don Mancini, who created the original movie, and this remake doesn’t even have his support. This new take on the story will be directed by Lars Klevberg and now filmmakers are seeking out an actress for a leading role in the movie.
That Hashtag Show have reported that the studio are interested in actress Liv Tyler. The story will follow the infamous possessed doll, Chucky, as it torments a single mother and her son. If Tyler accepts the role she will be cast as the mother, named Karen.
Although we don’t have a lot of information about the plot, we know it will feature a modern spin on the story. This will include a technologically advanced doll and a group of kids. Tyler Burton Smith wrote the script and David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith will produce. Aaron Schmidt is the executive producer.
Original writer and director, Don Mancini and producer, David Kirschner have both revealed that they are against the idea of the remake, after continually refusing offers to get on board with the project. The two of them are still telling their version of the story in the form of a TV series. Brad Dourif, who has voiced Chucky from the beginning is also not going to be involved in the reboot, so it looks as though the voice of the doll will be recast.
Production for the Child’s Play revival has been fast-tracked to start in September in Vancouver.
