Many fans have wondered whether or not Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will appear in the Venom movie. It hasn’t helped that there have been conflicting statements from man heads of both Sony and Marvel Studios. The main concern is that lots of people just don’t see how the Venom character works without the Web Head involved in the story.
Well, after the Sony Panel at SDCC and an interview with IGN, Director Ruben Fleischer answers that question.
“There is more than enough Venom to go around. Venom is a really huge character, and Hardy is an amazing actor, so there is plenty to mine just from Tom’s performance, the character and the world he inhabits.”
Fleischer also talks about the ‘duality of the character’. Most heroes and villains thus far are ether born or gifted their powers and work towards perfecting them. Venom, however, is another being inhabiting Eddie Brock, creating to beings trying to find a happy medium to work together, but with vastly different views on morality.
He does tease, however, that Spider-Man may still play a part at some point.
“Who’s to say whether it’s with or without Spider-Man?”
This, of course, will keep the fans salivating, as well as the rumors of Holland being on the Venom set during filming. Many doubt he will actually be in the film, but could he appear during a post credits scene? Are they building to a Spidey appearance in a later film? Only time will tell, but, either way, this movie is shaping up to be an incredible tale that looks to be able to stand on its own and help usher in Sony’s Spider-Verse.
