We got a preview earlier in the year at Cinema-Con of J.J. Abrams new Sci-Fi, World War II set horror, Overlord. Since then we have been waiting for more information on this Bad Robot picture, and now we have a better insight about what to expect as the trailer has been released. You can watch it below:
The story follows a group of US paratroopers who find themselves behind enemy lines on the eve of the D-Day landings. They try to liberate the small french village but soon discover that the Nazi forces stationed there have been performing horrific experiments in an attempt to create a new breed of immortal, zombie-like soldiers to serve the Reich.
Overlord stars Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell, Pilou Asbæk, John Magaro, Mathilde Ollivier, Iain De Caestecker, and Bokeem Woodbine. Julius Avery directs the screenplay written by Billy Ray and Mark L. Smith. J.J Abrams and Lindsey Weber are the producers.
We don’t have much more information about the plot, but speaking with NME in February, Abrams had this to say:
“First of all, that’s something I can’t wait for you to see, because the director, Julius Avery, has done an amazing job on it, But the specifics? We should wait and see. But that’s a crazy movie.”
At one point the movie was linked to the Cloverfield franchise, however in a pre-recorded message at Cinema-Con Abrams assured the crowd that although another Cloverfield movie is coming, this project is not a part of that franchise. Can we trust that message? We’ll just have to wait and see.
Overlord is being released in US theatres on November 9.
