The Walking Dead is coming into it’s ninth season and we can expect the trailer to be premiered at San Diego Comic-Con on 20 July. Ahead of this, after a picture was leaked briefly onto the Fox Brazil Twitter account, the Season 9 poster has been revealed. We can see by the leaked poster that the action has moved to a new location – a destroyed Washington DC. This is an area that has been referenced on the show but never visited.

Rick Grimes is at the forefront of the picture and is sporting a new look. This could support the time jump we are to expect, following comments writer-producer Angela Kang made during ‘The Kick-Ass Women of AMC’ panel in June. She said,
“We’re working on a season that has a really fresh look and feel. We’re playing with time in this season, so we get to kind of jump forward in the story.”
We also catch a glimpse of a helicopter hovering above Grimes and his allies. We have seen this mysterious helicopter before in the previous season, and with it could come some exciting changes for the show, but we will just have to wait and see. We know that Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan are both departing from the show in the first half of the season. Due to Lincoln’s departure Norman Reedus is said to be taking on a bigger role with a healthy pay rise to go with it.
Skybound’s Johnny O’Dell confirmed last month that we can expect to see more characters coming to the show from the comics, as well as characters that will be unique to the show. Characters will be spending more time on the road and face some new challenges. Chief content officer, Scott Gimple said:
“They’ll be dealing with things we haven’t seen them deal with before and dealing with each other in ways we haven’t seen before, What they have planned is — it just feels new. It feels like an evolved show. This very much lived in the world that Rick began with. It was so informed by the pilot. It just takes this quantum leap forward in the stories that it tells.”
This all seems super exciting, and we can expect more details to be announced during The Walking Dead‘s panel at San Diego Comic-Con. This will be in Hall H, on Friday, July 20 at 12:15 p.m.
