The upcoming Halloween movie is going to once again take us to the streets of Haddonfield, where Michael Myers took his slasher skills to the babysitters of the small town. Jamie Lee Curtis will be reprising her role as Laurie Strode but it seems that she is not the scared teenager anymore but the one ready to take on the masked maniac.
In a recent interview, Curtis was able to give her thoughts about her character and how she has progressed over the years and how Laurie is no longer the young and innocent. She believes that she has taken on the role of Dr. Loomis, who was (somewhat) hero of the franchise – as Myers’ doctor. He knew that the maniac was evil and needed to be stopped, which means that Curtis’ character is likely going to be the one to do the hunting in this film.
“Laurie has been traumatized and Laurie also understands Michael Myers in a way that nobody else does. So, in a weird way, she’s become the new Loomis character because Loomis was the one who understood that he [Michael needed to be stopped because he was pure evil. You see, Laurie knows that – and nobody’s paying any attention, but Laurie is…Laurie is patrolling these streets.”
The writers of the film described how they at first didn’t think anymore films should be made in the Halloween series – an opinion many horror fans would agree with. However, after consideration, they figured that if the film was going to be made, why not make it based on ‘what they would want to see’.
According to Danny McBride:
“I think, and I hope that well be making this movie on behalf of what fans want to see.”
With the scream queen taking the lead, the two super fans behind the writing, and the added benefit of the film being a direct sequel to the original, it seems that the group behind Halloween, will be brining us exactly what we didn’t know we needed.
The Halloween movie is set to release October 19th, which means many children will be dawning the Michael Myers mask as they raid your home for candy. It is going to feel like 1978 all over again with an entire new generation falling in love with the masked maniac.
