Amongst all the confusion happening at DC Studios, we will be brought two separate and very different solo Joker films. Recently announced was Jared Leto reprising his role from Suicide Squad in his own solo film, but that doesn’t seem to impress fans too much. There’s also Joaquin Phoenix, who will portray the Joker for a darker more grittier version of our beloved villain. However, the studio has decided that the funds for this project will only be a fraction of what most superhero films normally get.
Phoenix will be under the direction of Todd Phillips and they are set to start filming during the fall of this year. The film is being produced by Martin Scorsese and we will apparently be seeing a similar style of film to Scorsese’s 80’s movie, Taxi Driver. With everything seeming to set into place nicely, the budget has been set at 55 million. I wouldn’t label the production as “low budget” but considering that The Dark Knight had 185 million to play around with, it isn’t a heck of lot.
Besides the smaller than average budget and the darker more interesting take of the film, it is reported that the film may even be released under a new label such as DC Dark.
However, it is said that they are attempting to bring us a more grounded version of The Joker and with that, 55 million may be just the perfect amount of money. With two separate Joker films fighting for the limelight, here’s hoping that this film can stand out against the crowd and bring fans the new look into the Joker’s life that they are promising.
We have already heard your opinions on Jared Leto getting his own Joker film, but what are your thoughts on the Martin Scorsese version? Be sure to let us know in the comments below!
