Now, before we get started I want to cover two points. Firstly, this article will cover a few plot details from the latest issue of the most recent story arc from Marvel, Infinity Countdown, so if you’re looking to read it, you may want to miss this and secondly, there’s a good chance you are going to feel cheated by this article. If so, please feel free to put ‘Dammit James!‘ in the comments. Now, let’s get to it, shall we?
As mentioned earlier, this article is in regards to plot details from Infinity Countdown #4, namely changes to the characters of Galactus and Silver Surfer. The general plot of Infinity Countdown up until this point is that once again, the Infinity Stones have made an appearance with many powerful beings looking to gain them for themselves. One such character is Ultron, who harnessing the power of the Soul Stone and his own ‘Ultron Virus’ has managed to convert an entire planet into his drones, thus creating a Planet Ultron.
Discovering Ultron plans to send out to send rockets carrying this virus across the universe, Silver Surfer sought help from the only being he knew could help – Galactus. Unfortunately for Norin Radd, the Devourer of Worlds has turned over a new leaf, now acting as a force of good – known as the Lifebringer. He agrees to assist the Surfer, but warns that devouring another planet will come with a heavy price, and not just for himself.
Galactus eventually consumes Ultron’s new planet, foiling the villains plans and leaving him hurtling through space on a piece of debris. However with this latest taste of destruction, Galactus has reverted to his old ways with Silver Surfer back acting as his herald once more, much like how we found the pair in their earliest appearances.
Much like the recent revelation that Victor Von Doom, will ditch his Invincible Iron Man persona and revert to being simply Doctor Doom, it appears that Marvel are looking to return to the series to it’s roots with the return of original Fantastic Four team later this year.
So there you have it, Marvel’s latest big change is to go back on the previous changes. Told you you would feel cheated!
