With all the controversy that has revolved around the DC Comics Cinematic Universe, affectionately known as the DCEU, rumors run amok as to what is going on and what is not. One of the most talked about, and most back and forth, situations is whether or not Ben Affleck will return as Batman in the Matt Reeves’ helmed solo film. At the inception of the proper DCEU, Ben Affleck was cast as an older Bruce Wayne/Batman, and appeared in the heavily criticized Batman v Superman movie.
Although the film was critically panned, Affleck’s performance was admired by most. So, Warner Bros. jumped on the Batfleck bandwagon and pulled out all the stops by having Affleck write, direct and star in an upcoming solo Batman film. However, after Affleck’s film Live by Night completely bombed, he backed away from so many responsibilities with Batman, opting to only story and consult on the film.
Enter Matt Reeves. Reeves, hot on the heels of War of the Planet of the Apes, was tapped to lead the solo Batman film. Initially, Affleck was fully on board, proclaiming that he supported the hiring of Reeves and how he looked forward to working with the director on the film. But, over time, rumors of issues with the story swirled and Affleck, giving cryptic answers to interview questions, was thought to be done with Batman after Justice League underwhelmed at the box office.
More rumors and innuendo followed, with Jake Gyllenhaal allegedly in line to replace Affleck as the Caped Crusader.
Now there are new rumors out there that say that Affleck is fully involved for the solo Batman film, so much so that he will appear with Matt Reeves at San Diego Comic-Con in a sort of sign of solidarity that they are moving forward together on the project. And, over on Twitter, consummate rumor monger and predictor (with a very positive right to wrong ratio), @DanielRPK simply stated that Affleck is still on board to be the Dark Knight.
Still hearing he wants to stay in the role. https://t.co/vkVUYhj4Hd

We will just have to wait until San Diego Comic-Con this year to find out what exactly going on with this film, but fingers crossed we will finally get some resolution to the situation and get the solo Batman film back on track.
