Mater Suspiriorum and her coven of witches are back in the first trailer for the upcoming remake of Dario Argento’s Suspiria. It’s a very mysterious and enthralling trailer, so stay alert.
CinemaCon already received a different preview in April, which showed a very disturbing and gory outcome for one beloved dancer. Now Luca Guadagnino’s movie has its first official teaser trailer, and instead of gore it focuses on suspense and mystery. Most fans of the original film will notice the difference in both the music and visual aesthetic. Argento’s Suspiria was a very colorful and surreal motion picture, washing every scene with a morbid rainbow of colors that would be difficult for anyone to forget.
This new film seems to go for a darker visual style, however. Instead of the colors and Goblin’s iconic score, it’s a more yellowed and depressing color palette with a droning synthesized sound to accompany the footage. It’ll be exciting to see what other differences will mark this remake, but we’ll have to hope they still recognize what made the original so infamous all these decades later.
In the upcoming film…
“As a darkness builds at the center of a world-renown dance company, its artistic director (Swinton), a young American new to the troupe (Johnson), and a grieving psychotherapist (Ebersdorf) become entangled in a bloody, sighing nightmare.”
Suspiria hits theaters on November 2, 2018.
