Avengers: Infinity War was quite the experience for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One big character that was lacking in the movie, however, was The Incredible Hulk. We saw him at the beginning, in which he got his ass handed to him by Thanos – but other than that, the character was reduced to Bruce Banner unable to transform back into the giant green monster.
Infinity War’s writers, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, have now revealed why that was. In an interview with Collider, the duo is quoted as saying:
“He’s had his ass kicked before, and he loves a good fight. But I think that it’s really reflective of the journey from Ragnarok. These two characters are constantly in conflict with each other over control. And I think that if the Hulk were to say why it’d be Banner only wants Hulk for fighting. I think he’s had enough of saving Banner’s ass.”
They also had a pretty interesting response about a potentially different version of that Hulk vs. Thanos fight:
“I may be speaking out of turn, I think Thanos could kick the Hulk’s ass without the stone.”
Maybe we’ll get to see that happen in Avengers 4? Who knows. It’s something that fans definitely wouldn’t argue against, but it looks like that film is mostly going to focus on Iron Man, in what could potentially be the character’s last time in a movie. Then again – it could be the last time we see a lot of the key Avengers in a movie.
We’ll know for sure when the currently untitled Avengers film hits theaters on May 3rd of next year.
