Solo: A Star Wars Story may only just be hitting theaters today but that hasn’t stopped Disney from setting their next sights on the next entry in the anthology series. That’s right, a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Lucasfilm’s next film will be a solo film centered around intergalactic bad-ass, Boba Fett, and not only that, they’ve already got some pretty impressive talent lined up. Read on to find out more.
The report reveals that James Mangold, who helmed both The Wolverine and Logan for Fox, has been enlisted to both write and direct the film, which will presumably center around the Bounty Hunters early days. It’s possible that this will see him team with his Logan producer, Simon Kinberg, who has been linked to a Boba Fett film in the past.
It was long rumored that a film centered around Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi would actually be the next film to be produced with reports pegging a start of production next spring for a possible 2020 release. However outside of the rumour that Stephen Daldry is in negotiations to direct, not much else is known.
Boba Fett’s history has been something that fans have been interested in for a long time, with part of it being explored in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and further developed in the Clone Wars series. Seeing how he became the feared Bounty Hunter we saw in Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back would definitely please a lot of people.
Given that Disney already has Star Wars: Episode IX, Rian Johnson’s New Trilogy and the David Benioff and D.B. Weiss series on the horizon it’s hard to say just when this film will be released without Disney possibly upping the franchise to two a year. Until we get some official confirmation from Disney or Lucasfilm, we can only speculate.
In the meantime you can check out their latest entry Solo: A Star Wars Story in theatres now.
