With today’s announcement that Jake Gyllenhaal is entering talks to join the cast of the Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 as Quentin Beck aka Mysterio, it looks like the cast may finally be beginning to take shape. Now, a recent report has revealed that we will in fact see Michael Keaton return as The Vulture as well.
In a report regarding Gyllenhaal’s casting, Variety confirmed that Keaton is set to reprise his role as Adrian Toomes, better known as The Vulture in the Jon Watts helmed sequel. They revealed:
He is in talks to play the villain Mysterio, joining Michael Keaton, who will return to reprise his role of Vulture.
It’s difficult to foresee what type of role Toomes will play in the story given that the end of the previous film found him behind bars and seemingly repentant for his past. It could be that he will act as support for Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker given that he is aware of his double life, or it similarly it could be that his knowledge of Spider-Man’s identity is what puts him in the firing line of the new villains. This is something that was hinted at in the first film’s post-credits scene with Toomes being confronted by Mac Gargan about this information.
With this news and that of Mysterio’s inclusion, it sounds like the sequel is shaping up to be something special. In the meantime you can catch everybody’s favourite wall crawler in Avengers: Infinity War now.
