It’s hard to imagine it’s been almost a decade since we saw the beloved classic Zombieland, and with such great writing that lead to creating a true adaptation of the Merc with a Mouth, Rhett Reese and Paul Wenick have made the duo in R-rated action comedy. Talks of Zombieland 2 have been tossed back and forth and with some hopeful sequel news we’ve been waiting for in time for its 10 year anniversary.
Talking to Vulture on some updates on the film, it looks to still be very active for the two writers and it seems that all our likable characters are back with the original cast still on board for it.
Wernick hinted the plans
“We’re going on the tenth anniversary of Zombieland. Zombieland came out October of 2009. We don’t know what you get someone for their tenth anniversary, but it may be a Zombieland 2.”
As for release date? Well, with the talk of the 10-year anniversary speculation…
“The hope is that we’re shooting that thing early 2019 for an October of ’19 release… With the original cast, by the way.”
While 10 years might be a while, some of us had to wait quite a bit for other classics to be back in fruition. Think the groundbreaking Blade Runner 2049 and the newly confirmed Bill & Ted Face The Music as such examples.
Wernick finally gave one more playful jab to our eager minds:
“We are sitting on information that we can’t entirely share at this moment, but we can just say we think fans of Zombieland who have been hoping for a Zombieland 2, that we will grant their wish very, very soon.”
That’s the best bet for a release date, but more updates may just be along the way for us fans. Stay tuned for details.
