Many fans have been wondering if the upcoming Venom movie is secretly being set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with rumors of Tom Holland set to make an appearance. Kevin Feige has gone on record saying it’s not, but like I said, the Holland rumors definitely make things interesting. This doesn’t appear to be the case, however, according to one of the directors of Avengers: Infinity War.
At a recent Q & A, a fan asked Joe Russo about the possibility of Venom in the MCU – and Russo’s answer was straight to the point:
“No that’s a Sony property.”
Obviously disappointing news for anyone hoping to see this thing connected, but it’s not exactly surprising. Kevin Feige has a very specific way of doing things, and it probably isn’t the same way that Sony does them. As a big Venom fan, I’m hoping they can pull it off, but I won’t get my hopes up. Obviously, Tom Hardy is a good step towards it being a good movie, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
After all, it the movie is good, it could easily be put into the MCU down the road, if Disney wanted to try and buy Sony. Although, R-Rated movies haven’t exactly been the focus of Marvel Studios.
Venom hits theaters everywhere on October 5th.
