One thing many Marvel fans have been asking for for quite some time now is a crossover between the Marvel movies and television – specifically the Netflix shows. Many fans thought we would have at least had an MCU reference to the characters by this point, but it just hasn’t ended up happening for whatever reason – much to the dismay of many hardcore fans.
Kevin Feige recently gave an update to Screen Rant on the matter – but it’s pretty much in line with what’s said about the topic in the past:
“I don’t know. It really remains to be seen. So much of what they’re doing has been set. We’ve already shot Avengers 4. So much of what we’re doing is set, but I just, I never say never, but I’m not sure when that would be.”
The Defenders appearing in Avengers: Infinity War was actually talked about – but was deemed impossible, according to the film’s co-director, Joe Russo:
“We have considered everything. But the trick is that we already have at least sixty characters with whom we must tell a story! And it’s hard enough to communicate with Taika Waititi, Ryan Coogler, Scott Derrickson, Peyton Reed and James Gunn at the same time, not to add all the showrunners and TV crews to this. The latter is also led by totally different people. So it’s practically impossible. Our job is to focus on the Marvel film world and offer a satisfying climax.”
So there you have it. Will we ever see this happen? It’s honestly looking doubtful at this point. I mean how hard would it be to just put in an Easter egg or something like that? Just let us know that it’s officially connected! Either way, Infinity War hits theaters on Friday, and the Netflix Universe will see Luke Cage Season 2 premiere this summer.
