Marvel Studios has stated that a movie adaptation of the Eternals comic series will be undergoing early development. Created by Jack Kirby in 1976, The Eternals are a mix of earthlings that are mixed with some crazy genetic experimentation, similar to Kirby’s other work with DC’s New Gods. Another fact is we may see them sooner and that is due to a change in Thanos’ motivations.
Kevin Feige revealed to TheWrap this information:
“‘Eternals’ is one of many many many things that we are actively beginning to have creative discussions about to see if we believe in them enough to put them on a slate.”
Feige went on to admit that the next wave of films is heading out, earlier indicated with the release of unnamed Marvel project dates being revealed last month:
“We have started working on what are the films post-phase 3.”
Earlier this month, Jeremy Conrad of MCUCosmic made it pretty clear this information was all but verbally ready to be announced, and we finally got the ticket punched.
However, it seems that it’s not going to be a focus until a bit later on with the MCU line-up. In addition that getting Infinity War primed up this week, there’s also Ant-Man and Wasp, Captain Marvel and the filming for the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel in the month of July. Not to mention the workings of a fourth Avengers film to continue off Infinity War.
“Those are the five things that are taking up 90 percent of our time…But there’s 10 percent we’re starting to go, ‘What’s going to be best?’ And some of that is you can take cues from everything we’ve done in the 22 movies before those — which is sequels to existing characters, new interpretation of existing characters and trying whole new swings with stuff that most people never heard of. So there are writers coming in on lots of different projects and lots of different ideas. And you’ll only start to hear more and more of it.”
The focus on the now is especially important at this stage of the game, so don’t be anticipating any news on the Eternals soon. But when those updates come, you can count on ScreenGeek to keep you posted.
