The first trailer for The First Purge has arrived – and fans of the other films in the franchise are sure to be pleased. It teases the origin story behind the first film, and features elements from the other films as well. Some fans might not be excited with the ultra-political route the film seems to be taking – but we already knew this was the case with first images from the film that mocked Donald Trump.

A new poster was released as well:

And in case those weren’t enough for you, we also have the film’s synopsis for you as well:
Behind every tradition lies a revolution. Next Independence Day, witness the rise of our country’s 12 hours of annual lawlessness. Welcome to the movement that began as a simple experiment: The First Purge. To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.
The First Purge hits theaters everywhere on July 4th.
