After having many growing up reading and watching Harry Potter light up the big screen with his magical abilities and his social issues, the Author J.K. Rowling brought the series to an end. Sometime after the fans had time to mourn the fact Harry Potter had found all the horcrux and finally taken care of Voldemort, a new movie came in to our lives. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hit the theaters in 2016 and ended with very mixed reviews from the Potter crowd. As to be expected, it had the same charm but none of the same loveable characters that fans had grown attached to.
Two years later and we are being handed the trailer for Fantastic Beasts 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Even with the mixed reviews, enough people loved seeing a different part of Rowling’s magical world come to light that it just didn’t seem possible not to have a sequel. These movies are set before the time of Potter and therefore should be held on a completely different scale and not compared.
The trailer released shows the film has the same charming visual effects and character personalities that the first one held. It seems to have intense dark vibes and that is very exciting when it comes to what looks like a wizard battle. Johnny Depp’s character, Gellert Grindelwald, is angry and taking a mean revenge and although details are sparing at this point, looks like we may have some fun with the younger Professor Albus Dumbledore (played by Jude Law). The story clearly follows Newt Scamander and his entertaining and easily startled pal along another adventure, this time in Paris. Scamander will once again be played by the talented British actor; Eddie Redmayne and his pal Jacob Kowalski will be portrayed by Don Fogler.
We welcome J.K. Rowling’s magical world back to our televisions and theatres because the reality is that no one can quite place us in the wizarding world quite like her and her talented writing. Although the movie is not set to come out until November of this year, I can personally vouch that I will be seeing it within the first week of its release. Here’s to more interesting trailers with little to no plot points leaked.
