Filming for the new DC Extended Universe standalone film Shazam! commenced in Toronto, Ontario in January this year. The film is being shot under the working title “Franklin”. It is anticipated that the shooting of the film will be finished in March 2018, with a lengthy post production predicted ahead of the film’s release in April.
Now that shooting has commenced, photos and videos from on set are being released at a steady rate. These photos and videos have hinted, and not for the first time, at a cameo from the Caped Crusader.

We are yet to see the Dark Knight appear on screen, however the latest pics hint at Batman’s home town and its surrounds. Latest pics include shots of a news van from none other than Gotham City. This strengthens previous rumours that Ben Affleck‘s Caped Crusader may be involved in the film in some way.
Whilst we don’t expect we will actually visit Gotham City in Shazam!, this newly released pic (along with the Ace Chemicals teaser shown the other week) definitely hints there could be some relation between Batman and titular hero. Or, at the very least, the city he inhabits. Let’s not forget that director David F. Sandberg released a clip from an animated movie that showed the Dark Knight. In the clip, he encounters the superhero formerly known as Captain Marvel. This has added further fuel to the fire.
However, with Affleck rumored to be on his way out of the DCEU, could these easter eggs be simply that and nothing more? Perhaps the inclusion of these Easter eggs is simply to remind the viewers that these films occur in the same universe.
With the film set for release on 4 April 2018, we are soon to find out.
