Black Panther has been a smash hit across the globe, grossing over $909 million worldwide. There are some, though, to whom the film is especially meaningful. During an interview, actress Sandra Bullock has spoken about what the film means to her as a mother. Sandra has two black adopted children, 3 1/2 year old Laila and 5 year old Louis. Bullock feels that the movie contains a powerful message, especially for son Louis.
She stated to Access:
“I’m so grateful to Marvel because about five years ago, my son asked me if there were any brown Legos and I said, ‘Yes, there are,’ and I got a Sharpie and I turned Spider-Man brown, I turned the Legos brown, and I don’t have to turn them brown anymore.”
Whilst backstage at the Oscars, Bullock met the cast of Black Panther. She says the experience was incredibly emotional and meaningful to her, saying:
“I started to cry backstage when I was telling [the Black Panther cast] how much the film meant to me as a woman, but how much it meant to me as a mother.”
Her sentiments have been echoed by many, who feel seeing the black superhero on the big screen is a huge step forward.
Alongside Chadwick Boseman, Black Panther also stars Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Sterling K. Brown, Andy Serkis and John Kan. The MCU movie is directed by Ryan Coogler.
Black Panther is now showing in theaters.
