Concept Art Reveals Alternate Black Panther Costumes

    By Abbey PayneMarch 8, 2018
    Black Panther Costume

With Black Panther recently hitting our cinema screens, many are saying that he has by far the best looking costume in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The costume is sleek and understated, making it timeless. It is also incredible to watch in action. Throughout the comic books, we have seen many adaptations of Black Panther’s costume. It will be interesting to see how the costume continues to evolve throughout the hero’s adventures on screen.

Slight changes were made to the design of the costume following his appearance in Captain America : Civil War. However, it looks like early concepts of the costume had it looking dramatically different. Artist Jerad S Manantz has taken to Instagram to show off his early designs for Black Panther’s costume from his time working on the film.

The designs shared by Jerad show a much more armored version of Black Panther. One of the concepts shows a more Batman-like cowl and an opening at the mouth, with the other two concepts featuring a full helmet with a much more mechanical necklace.

Early #blackpanthermovie #blackpanther #conceptart I was on the movie briefly working under the direction of the head of visual development @ryan_meinerding_art I tried to incorporate Ryan’s design language he established in the original design from #captainamericacivilwar This pass was about using very minimal armor and really just seeing what we could do with fabric alone. The director wanted to see this option. In the early days of the comic black panther had a half mask briefly. Always an honor to work with the team over at #marvel and I am so excited that the movie is getting acclaim it deserves. #mcu #marvelcinematicuniverse #zbrush #keyshot #comicbookmovie

You can’t deny that the additional armour would have come in handy during T’Challa’s showdown with Killmonger.

Black Panther follows T’Challa after the events of Captain America : Civil War. T’Challa returns to his homeland of Wakanda, a technologically advanced race in Africa to take his place as King. When an old enemy returns, T’Challa’s resilience as both King and Black Panther are put to the test.

Among the stars of Black Panther are Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross and Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi.
