Black Panther is currently getting rave reviews, as it had a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes – until today. That’s right, there were 75 reviews on RT praising the film – but you knew this was going to happen. 2017’s Get Out had a similar fate, as it sat at 100% until one person gave it a negative review. The same can be said about Thor: Ragnarok.
The reviewer in question? A site called Irish Independent, who writes:
Black Panther spirals into a stodgy tale of internecine feuding, in which T’Challa is required to come to terms with the sins of past generations. What he doesn’t get to do much of is jump around beating-up bad guys. That’s a shame.
You have to wonder about a negative review coming out late after nothing but positive ones. Desperate for clicks? Maybe. If they didn’t like it, then that’s fair. It’s just hard not to be cynical about it at this point.
It had previously been revealed that certain DC Fans were preparing to smear the film’s ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, prompting the website to release the following statement:
“We at Rotten Tomatoes are proud to have become a platform for passionate fans to debate and discuss entertainment and we take that responsibility seriously. While we respect our fans’ diverse opinions, we do not condone hate speech. Our team of security, network and social experts continue to closely monitor our platforms and any users who engage in such activities will be blocked from our site and their comments removed as quickly as possible.”
It should be noted that this doesn’t effect the audience score, which was targeted by the group. Still though, it makes you wonder.
