Many horror fans are looking forward to the upcoming release of Slender Man, the movie based on the popular internet character. It hasn’t been without controversy, however, though that doesn’t appear to be the reason for the delay. Screen Gems initially replaced Cadaver with Slender Man, and now Cadaver has been removed entirely from the upcoming release schedule.
According to Bloody-Disgusting:
Sony Screen Gem’s Slender Man has shifted out of late spring/early summer into a pre-fall release. It will now open in theaters August 24, 2018, out of its original May 18th slot. Slender Man left another horror film in its wake as Screen Gems pulled Cadaver off their schedule completely.
The film’s first trailer was released just earlier this month, and had quite the reaction. The controversy we brought up at the beginning of the article stems from a girl who tried to murder one of her classmates – because the Slender Man told her to do it. The father of the girl who tried to commit the crime said the following about the movie:
“It’s absurd they want to make a movie like this. It’s popularizing a tragedy is what it’s doing. I’m not surprised but in my opinion, it’s extremely distasteful. All we’re doing is extending the pain all three of these families have gone through.”
The film’s synopsis:
In a small town in Massachusetts, four high school girls perform a ritual in an attempt to debunk the lore of Slender Man. When one of the girls goes mysteriously missing, they begin to suspect that she is, in fact, HIS latest victim.
As mentioned above, Slender Man will now hit theaters on August 24th.
