There was an supposedly an interesting tease posted (and later deleted) by Tom Hardy for the Venom movie this week, and people thought it was confirmation that Carnage will be the film’s villain. That’s far from the case, as Carnage was confirmed a long time ago in a THR report published all the way back in June. The report said:
“As for the expansion plans, Tom Hardy is starring in Venom, dated for Oct. 5, 2018, which will also feature the villain Carnage. A source says Holland is only contractually obligated to Spider-Man 2 and 3, but the intention is to bring him into the spinoffs and possibly other Marvel films (he is currently shooting Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War).”
Another interesting thing from the tweet is that the Tom Hardy Instagram screenshot doesn’t even have Tom Hardy’s verified sticker on it – meaning it could be photoshopped:
Tom Hardy just posted this himself on his instagram account, just saying… @_ChristopherM @thomasepolito @elmayimbe @ComicBookNOW @heroichollywood @VenomMovie #Venom #Carnage pic.twitter.com/MAnBdIIZrP pic.twitter.com/xnRx5Emr1B

Even if Hardy did delete it after he allegedly posted it, it doesn’t change the fact that Carnage was confirmed quite some time ago. It’s unclear who will play the character, though it’s been speculated that it could be Woody Harrelson.
The movie is also going to possibly have multiple symbiotes, in what would make for one potentially crazy plot. It’s said that the film will be based on the popular Lethal Protector storyline.
As far as what to expect in the movie, Venom’s creator Todd McFarlane seems to think it’ll be pretty good – because of the film’s main star:
“It’ll be interesting. I’ve seen some movies of his where he can bring anger and a wide personality to it. To me, I think Tom Hardy’s going to be as good as whatever Venom looks like. We all know Tom’s going to act. He’s going to do a good job. So now what’s Venom gonna’ look like? It’s an R-rated movie, how “R” are they going to go? To me, that’s the question. Are they going to go a “little bit R”? Venom’s a monster to me, and to me – are they going to make him a monster or are they going to make him a man? Are they going to humanize him? That’s what we gotta’ find out.”
Venom hits theaters on October 5th.
